OTTAWA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Dutch skaters continued their dominance at the ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Calgary by taking two golds out of four on offer on Saturday.
Femke Kok clocked 36.65 seconds to take her fifth consecutive World Cup gold over 500 meters across this and last season.
Kok's opener was 10.36 seconds, compared with 10.19 last week in Salt Lake City, but she was quick enough in the rest of the race to beat Chen Ying-Chu of Chinese Taipei into second place by 0.49 seconds. The bronze medal went to American Erin Jackson, who finished in 37.15s.
"My opener was not so good. I was not very sharp today, and then the way I entered the last corner was wretched, but my speed is all right so I'm happy to be able to post a time like this after those mistakes, and to still win by such a big margin," said Kok.
Kok's compatriot Joy Beune crossed the line in 1:51.17 to clinch her second straight victory in the women's 1,500m and fourth gold of this season.
Japan's Miho Takagi took the silver with 1:51.68 and Brittany Bowe of the United States finished third in 1:51.84.
In the men's 1,500m, America's Jordan Stolz clinched his fifth gold of this season with a winning time of 1:42.10. Finn Sonnekalb of Germany and the Netherlands' Kjeld Nuis were second and third respectively.
Also on Saturday, Kim Jun-ho of South Korea won the first men's 500m race with a time of 33.99 seconds ahead of Jenning De Boo of the Netherlands and Stolz in third.
The World Cup in Calgary concludes on Sunday with seven more golds up for grabs. ■
