TOKYO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 struck Kumamoto prefecture in southwestern Japan on Tuesday, the weather agency said.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the temblor occurred at 6:01 p.m. local time, originating at a depth of approximately 10 km.
The quake's epicenter was located at a latitude of 33 degrees north and a longitude of 131.1 degrees east.
Ubuyama village in Kumamoto prefecture experienced a seismic intensity of upper 5 on the Japanese scale of 7, while lower 5 was observed in Aso city, Kumamoto prefecture, and Taketa city, Oita prefecture.
No tsunami warning was issued, the JMA said. ■
