CAIRO, July 7 (Xinhua) -- An Egyptian court on Saturday sentenced a Lebanese female tourist to eight years in prison for insulting Egypt and Egyptians in a video she posted on Facebook during her recent trip to the country.

The Lebanese woman, identified as 24-year-old Mona al-Mazbouh, was arrested in late May and referred to a criminal court in early June for an urgent trial over her offensive remarks.

In the video, Mazbouh claimed she was subjected to verbal sexual harassment in a Cairo street, describing Egyptians as "the dirtiest people in the world."

She later appeared in an apologetic video explaining that her remarks in the first video did not refer to Egyptians in general.

Mazbouh's lawyer Emad Kamal submitted to court a statement from a Lebanese hospital certifying that the woman suffered neurological disorders after a brain surgery in Lebanon in 2006.

The lawyer filed an appeal against the jail verdict and it will be heard before an appeal court on July 29.
